Trails North
On this web site, we are hoping to provide accurate information on all the trails listed, with easy to follow direction, making it easier for newcomers and visitors to our area tto easily find their way to the trail heads.
Although not genealogy related it is a great New information site about the trail systems in North Bay and area and I wanted to add it! It does provide links to area sites.

Lookups:
The following people are willing to help with lookups for certain areas in our district. Please respect that they are volunteering to do this and are doing so on their own time. Lookups does not mean they will research your whole family tree for you, it does mean they will assist if they can, in finding out vital information for you. It may take time for them to respond as life sometimes has it's own way of steering us!

I recieved the following information regarding information available...

in East Ferris TWP:

East Ferris records do not really appear until the 50's. Birth rates etc. were lumped into the district statistics. I have made a small data collection regarding Corbeil mainly because nothing had ever been collected here in this village. The Perron family, headed by Hector(deceased) and Germaine published an historical booklet on Astorville a few years ago. Astorville and Corbeil are delineated village sites, but the areas beyond the villages are still considered to be of the same name. I had better explain. If you ask someone in the area of Mcpherson Drive, which is 4-5 miles from the townsite, they will say they live in Corbeil. In the whole area around the western shore of Lake Nosbonsing, people will claim to be from Astorville. I would guess that these boundaries are the result of the Roman Catholic parish boundaries and they are very strongly entrenched in the minds of the older residents. My intention is to sacn most of my collection onto disc, but I am hoping that I may be able to expand the project with a grant from Culture Ontario. My main problem is time.

Yours truly. Bill Vrebosch, Mayor, East Ferris Township

I have the French: Paroisse Saint-Thomas-D'Aquin 1902-2002 as well as various articles the previous librarian had compiled.
Stop in at the library if you would like to have a look through what we have.
We're located in the municipality called East Ferris (comprised of the towns Astorville and Corbeil), the town being named Astorville - named after Father Astor, it was originally called Lévesque. I also have the memoirs of Joseph Levesque written in French. The Dionne Quints were born in Corbeil.

in Bonfield:

Hi Annette
At the library in Bonfield we do have historical data that was donated to us by the Rutherglen Women Institute and we also have a copy of our centennial book on the township. We do not have any microfilms. Our Friends of the Library our applying for a grant to have the Rutherglen Women Institute genealogical pertinent information digitized and we wish them every success.

Jeannette

Also if you would like to help or possibly even donate to the digitizing project being done by the "Friends of the Bonfield Public Library" of the "Women's Institute" Records contact Marilyn Stewart. They would be a great asset to the Nipissing District and all those doing research in those areas as there are PHOTOS and archives that need to be preserved. If you can help them out please do!

in regards to School Records:

Hi Annette.

I hope this helps:

Please note that these records are confidential to anyone but the person the information has been collected about. (Unless someone has signed third party authorization). If you have any additional questions, please don' hesitate to contact me.

Regards,
