Special Requests

If you have a special request that you would like me to add regarding your search contact me at info@nipissingongenweb.org.

The following are searches that I have been asked to put up that are specifically regarding native heritage searches.

Hi Annette;

Jean Baptiste Constant was my great great grandfather. He was appointed Grand Chief Kiconse (Kikons - different spelling at times) of the Algonquin Tribe on June 01, 1837 on behalf of King William the Fourth and The Earl of Gosford....of which I have his certificate. His surname is CONSTANT.

Jean Baptiste was the son of Jean Louis Constant who also was Grand Chief Penency of the Algonquins...appointed on behalf of King George and Sir James Kemp on May 01, 1830.

Jean Louis Constant was also the son of Chief Wambolak.

I haven't been able to go any farther back than Chief Wambolak....of which I wish I could, so perhaps by some small miracle, someone might have a history on these Algonquin Chiefs who were all born in Oka, Quebec. Chief Wambolak ( Bernard Wabonack??) and Jean Louis died and was buried in Oka, Quebec ....but Jean Baptiste died around the Springtown/Burnstown/Renfrew, Ontario area as a very elderly man. His death date and place is what I am really interested in.....as well as any other information someone might have.

These last two grand chiefs "originated" the Land Claim Petitions in 1820 to 1837 and their signed names are on all the petitions. I have the information on these petitions.

My mom, Bernadette Crawford, married Isidore Turcotte (son of Philias Turcotte & Lea Lamarre, Mattawa, Ontario.....of which, I saw their wedding posted on your site). She was born and raised in Mattawa....well known for her music....and the daughter of George Crawford Sr. and Mary Marcotte.

I only found your website recently and I appreciate that you are there doing all you can to help people like me become more knowledgeable of their family background. I know I feel like I'm not alone in doing this when I see people like you reaching out to help. Please carry on....we need you!!

If you need any additional info, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Thanks again,

I am writing to find out if you can help me locate info on this man. I am a distant relative of his and wanted to know if he is an Algonquin chief. Another source of information told me he was an American Indian (Amerindian) of the Montagnais Tribe. He married Marie Josephe Pelletier on July 12, 1721 in Tadoussac, Quebec. Marie was born to Nicolas Pelletier and Francoise Ouechipichinokouc. If anyone has info on Marie's native heritage I would be interested in it as well.

This stuff is fasinating. We've always heard there was a native connection in our family through the Blackburns from Quebec but until now it was only a story. I've found enough info to make it official so I am really excited to establish my native roots. My spelling of names may not be accurate but, as you know, one site spells it one way and one another. It is close enough that people reading this will know who I am referring to.

Any information you or your readers can provide will be most appreciated. Many thanks.
