Nipissing District was formed in and about 1858. North Bay is the largest community in
this district and houses many of the resources people may be looking for in their genealogical search.

Just West of North Bay is the Nipissing 10 Indian Reserve. This
consists of three communities: Beaucage, Garden Village, and Yellek.
Just 6km south
of Temagami is the First Nation reserve, Bear Island.
Nipissing, Unorganized, North Part is an unorganized census
subdivision and includes unincorporated regions in the northern Nipissing District (north of the Mattawa River). These communities
are: Balsam Creek, Eldee, Songis and Thorne.
Nipissing, Unorganized, South Part
is an unorganized area in the southern part of the District of Nipissing. It makes up a large area which include
one of Canada's largest parks, Algonquin Provincial Park.
