As I look through my things I've come across a few obituaries from over the years. I will also be obtaining older newspapers and such from my grandfather 's collection that I will go through and post obituaries from where and when I can.

MATTAWA Feb 26 1925 - (Special) Mattawa lost one of its town fathers in the sudden death on Tuesday, February 17th , of Mr. Robert Small, who passed away at the age of 81 years. The late Mr. Small came to Mattawa as a young man and set up a business, which gradually increased through his never failing energy and integrity. He retired from active business in 1913, but continued the office of Crown Land Agent, up to the time of his death. He held office as town councillor for a number of years and his sound judgement could always be relied upon. He also was a senior trustee of the town Public School and elder of the Union Church and a genial friend of all and, in particular, the young folks and little tots who affectionately called him "Dad Small". They came in sorrowful crowds to see him for the last time. Mr. Small is survived by his wife who is seriously ill in the General Hospital , here, and his two sons, Allan, Calgary, and Harry of Edmonton. Among the numerous floral tributes were noticed Gates Ajar from the Public School trustees and treasurer; wreath from the Union Church; wreath from the L.G.L.; wreath from Mr. Christy Small and family; sheaf, Dr. and Mrs. M. James; wreath, Mr and Mrs. J.H. Bell. The funeral was held Sunday from his late residence to the Union Church, where service was conducted by Rev. H. MacCrimmon and, thence to the cemetery. The pallbearers were Mr. H. Morel, M.L.A., Dr. M. James, Mr. A. Stewart, Mr. A. Ross, Mr. EH Labelle and Mr. Robert McElroy. The funeral was largely attended by the citizens of the town and surrounding country, including Mr. Christy Small and family of Pembroke. (Northern Daily News - 26 February 1925)

COLQUHOUN, Melvin Donald , Sturgeon Falls, June 10 1943-There was a large attendance in the United Church Wednesday afternoon for seven-year-old Melvin Donald Colquhoun, son of Mr. And Mrs. Joseph Colquhoun, whose death occurred on Monday, June 7, in Brebeuf Hospital following an illness of two days duration. The church rites followed a private service held at the family residence. Rev. E.E. Knowels officiated, and burial took place in the Union Cemetery. Pall-bearers for the funeral service were, Evan Chellew, Jerry Seguin, Gordon Beach, Russel Edmunds, Jack Dillon and Homer Fouriezos. The little boy is survived by his parents, Mr. And Mrs. Joseph Colquhoun, and two brothers, Kenneth and Howard. Those from out of town who attended the funeral were, Wilbert Colquhoun, Nobel: Mrs. Elwin Anderson, Montreal: Mrs. Ernie Alcock, Brockville:, Mrs. John Sawdon and daughters, Gale and Joan, and Mrs. Morley Sawdon and son, Douglas, all of Sudbury. COLQUHOUN, Joseph , Sturgeon Falls, Aug. 24-1945. The death occurred early Wednesday night, August 23 at Brebeuf Hospital, of a well know resident of Sturgeon Falls for 30 years and a member of the local police for the past 10 years, in the person of Joseph Alexander Colquhoun, following an illness of eight months duration. Mr. Colquhoun was born in Weir, Quebec, 53 years ago, a son of the late Mr. And Mrs. Nathaniel Colquhoun. His marriage to the former Miss Edith Young took place in Sturgeon Falls, 17 years ago. Mr. Colquhoun was a member of the Odd Fellows and the Loyal Orange Lodge. He is survived by his widow, three sons, Kenneth, Howard, and David, two brothers, Wilbert of Sturgeon Falls, and Allan of Arundel, Quebec, and one sister, Mrs. E.Anderson of Montreal Quebec. BOWEN, Alice - Peacefully, at Casselholme, on Good Friday, April 10, 1998, Alice Margaret (Scheifele) Bowen, in her 88th year. Beloved wife of the late Robert Bowen. Much loved as mother of Margaret Moore and her husband Tom of North Bay and as grandmother of Bob (Jennifer Rantz) of North York and Jamie (wife Karen) of Kitchener. Dear sister of Cora Peacock, Walter Scheifele and Dorothy Rieder (husband Paul), all of Kitchener-Waterloo. Predeceased, in addition to her husband, by grandson Jeffrey and brother Robert and Harold. Alice was born in Waterloo, November 22, 1910, daughter of the late Henry and Clara Scheifele, spending her young life there, moving to Sudbury upon marriage, and moving to North Bay in retirement years. She enjoyed a secretarial career, working in Kitchener-Waterloo and Sudbury, and enjoyed participating in her own activities or following the activities of her husband, daughter and son-in-law and grandsons, particulary enjoying her daughter's figure skating, her home in Sudbury and summer cottage at Lake Penage, special occasions spent with family and friends, particulary Christmases and summer holidays with her grandsons, and her special physio program. Cremation has taken place. Her life will be celebrated in a memorial serivce at Casselholme on Saturday, April 18th at 2 p.m. Donations to the Multiple Sclerosis Society, The Casselholme Residents Fund or the charity of your choice would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy, through the Martyn Funeral Home, 464 Wyld St, North Bay, P1B 1Z5. KELLY, Mabel - A lifelong resident of Redbridge. After a short illness, at North Bay General Hospital, Scollard Site, on Monday, April 13, 1998, in her 80th year. Dear wife of the late Bill Kelly. Loving mother of Norman of Anchorage, Alaska, Dennis of Ottawa, Diane Langlois (Rick) of Redbridge and Brian, also of Redbridge. Sadly missed by grandchildren Shane and Kelly Langlois and Ryan, Maranda and Krystal Kelly. Survived by her sister Irene Dingley of Kitchener. Predeceased by brothers sisters Eva Bruno, Dave Dube, Laura White, Sadie Bruno, Annie McLaren, Rose Robinson and Delmar Martin. BENTLEY, Gordon Raymond - Passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, April 13, 1998, in his 63rd year. Beloved husband of Marguerite. Loving father of Deborah (Bentley-Straight), Bonnie Wade, Rhonda and Nicole. Loving grandfather of Kira, Morgan and Ryan. Will be sadly missed by all his family, extended family and all who knew and loved him. As per his wishes, there will be no funeral service. Loving mother of Reverend Mr. Romeo DelGuidice (Mignonne) of Callander, Colette Endress (Paul) of Bracebridge and Roland DelGuidice (Beverley) of Wasaga Beach. Beloved memere of Tiffany, Gregory, Jennifer, Brigette, Jason and Zoe DelGuidice and Derek and Jeffrey Endress and Nicole Nabb and 15 great-grandchildren.

OLMSTED, William Richard (Ric) - It is with deep regret that the family announces the sudden passing of Richard Olmsted in Castlegar, British Columbia, in his 54th year, on August, 2001. He was the beloved husband of Anna (nee Soomer), formerly of North Bay, and the son of the late William and Mary Olmsted of North Bay. He is also survived by his uncle Charles Olmsted (Joan) of North Bay, his aunt Joan Devaney Brown of Burlington, Ontario, his cousins Peter, Barbara, Paul and Nancy Olmsted, and stepchildren Justin Corbeil and Gillian Durocher both of North Bay. Richard was a senior fishing biologist with British Columbia Hydro, and a natural resources specialist. He was a noted and well respected expert fisherman, and published several learned treatises on the fish habitat in B.C. He spent spent many years fishing salmon and steelhead in most of British Columbia and worked tirelessly to prevent inroads of commercial fishing and development that threatened the fish stocks in that province. He was particularly concerned with the Thompson River, where he caught and released Steelhead Trout in an annual pilgrimage that spanned nearly 30 years. He will be sadly missed by his wife Anna, his family and his many colleagues and friends. A memorial service is planned at a later date, by the Thompson River. FALCONI, Giuseppe "Joe" - At North Bay General Hospital, Scollard Site, Tuesday, Spetember 10, 2002 Joe Giuseppe Loving husband of Benita (nee Ricci) for 49 years. Dear father of Joanne Falconi of Ottawa, Joey Falconi (Oriana) of Toronto and Jennifer Roveda (Peter) of North Bay. Very special and loved grandpa of Joey Falconi, Jessica and Nicolas Roveda. Dear brother of Fernanda Carcasole, Clementi Campagna. He was predeceased by his parents Gennarina and Romeo Falconi, three brothers, Stanislao, Luigi (Gilberta surviving), Adriano Falconi (Assunta surviving), and two sisters; Nina Palladini and Elda Protomani (Armando surviving). Joe was born December 30, 1929 at Pisterzo, Latina, Italy. He was employed with the O.N.R. as a carman for 39 years until his retirement in 1990. He loved gardening, tending to his rose bushes and enjoyed playing bocce and cards. Family greeting friends at McGUINTY Funeral Home today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm. Il laisse dans le deuil de nombreux neveux et nièces et amis de sa communauté. Tous se souviendront de l’oncle Merrill pou son goût de vivre pleinement. Homme a tout essayer, il a été fermier, bûcheron, jardiner et « patenteux », en soudure, surtout. Amateur de chasse, de pêche et de rencontres pour parties de cartes, il a pratique ces activités jusqu’aux limites de ses capacites. La famille accueillera parents et amis au SALON McGUINTY, dimanche de 14h á 16h et 19h á 21h. Les funérailles auront lieu à l’église St. Thomas d’aquin, Astorville, lundi á 10h30. SINCLAIR, (FINCH), Simone (nee Bertrand) Born on October 20, 1918 - Passed away Wednesday, August 13, 2003, at her home surrounded by her husband Henry and daughter. Simone is survived by her daughter Pat and son Larry both of North Bay, step daughters Bonnie Thomas of Toronto and June & DanSmith of Victoria, British Columbia, her sister Rita Belanger and by her sister-in-law Enid Bertrand. Lovingly remembered by her granddaughter Joanna Johnstone (Fred) of Sunridge, Tina Thorkelson (Jason) of Callander and by her step granddaughters Caillin and Kiera. Simone was especially proud of her five great grandchildren Tyler age 11 who was the light of her life, Tori age 6, Jenna age 3, Owen age 3, and Savannah 3 months of age. Simone was the daughter of the late Odille and Alphonse Bertrand. She was born in Mattawa and at an early age moved to Temiskaming, Quebec. She met and married Bert Finch on January 1, 1943; he passed away April 24, 1980. In October of 1983 she married Henry Sinclair and they have resided in North Bay for the past 19 years. After she retired, Simone had many hobbies, including travelling with hisband many wonderful vacations. Her one interest next to her family and her was the Niatta Rebekah Lodge, which she was a member of for over 40 years and she was an associate member of the Nipissing Rebekah Lodge. A Rebekah Memorial Service was at the Funeral Home this morning at 10:30 am. Funeral Services were held in the MARTYN Funeral Home Chapel today, Friday, August 15th, at 11:00 am. Internment followed at the Terrace Lawn Cemetery. FOUBERT, Therese - Passed away at Cassellholme Home for the Aged, Wednesday, August 13, 2003, at the age of 86. Therese Lafrance was the beloved wife of Aldy Foubert. Beloved stepdaughter of Leslie Polson and sister of Diane (Bill), Celina, Lavina (Edward), Stanley (Margaret) of Notre-Dame-du-Nord, Quebec. Fondly remembered by her grandchildren, Lisa Robinson, Lauren Robinson, Derek McKenzie of North Bay, and Leanne Robinson of Toronto, great grandchildren, Zachery of North Bay andOwen of Kipawa, Quebec. DRAPER, Robert "Bob" - In loving memory of Mr. Robert "Bob" Draper, of Englehart, who passed away at the North Bay General Hospital, on Friday, June 3, 2005 at the age of 79. Bob had been employed with the Ontario Northland Railways from 1946 till his retirement in 1980. Predeceased by one brother Dick. He is survived by his wife Eileen, his children, Beth (Bill Dickinson) of Englehart, Robin (Robin Marshall) of Kenogami, Vicki (Allan Lawrence) of Tomstown, Bonnie Hoskins of Keswick and Bob (Becky) of North Bay, nine grandchildren, six great granddaughters, one brother Don of Wawa, one sister Betty Norman of North Bay and two special nieces, Doreen (Gord Roberts) of Alliston, Joan (Guy Renaud) of Temagami and their families. The family of the late Mr. Bob Draper will recieve friends at the McDonald Funeral Home, Englehart, today June 6 from 7 to 9pm. HILL, Eva Irene - Mrs. Eva Hill, beloved wife of the late Gerald (Jed) Hill, passed away at the North Bay General Hospital, McLaren Site on June 3, 2005, at the age of 94 years. Prior to her recent illness, Eva lived at the Empire Living Centre in North Bay and was a member of the Retired Teachers of Ontario and the Fidelis Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star. She had been an active member of Emanuel United Church for many years. She is survived by her stepmother, Pearl Moore as well as by her two nephews, Rob Martyn, husband of Judy Martyn, and Peter Hill, husband of Mary Jo Hill, and her two nieces Mary Lynn Armstrong (nee Martyn) wife of Richard Armstrong, and Helen Ellis, wife of the late Gordon Ellis. HEr nephew William (Bill) Bailey predeceased her. She is also survived by many great nieces and nephews and numerous great great nieces and nephews. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the MARTYN FUNERAL. Visitation will be held from 10am until the funeral service at 11am on Wednesday, June 8, 2005 at the Martyn Funeral Home Chapel. STARGRATT, Elizabeth (nee Skilton) 1910 - 2005 - Passed away peacefully to be with the Lord, on Friday, June 3 at Cassellhome. Predeceased by her husband Samuel Stargratt (1978), her her son Walter and daughters Laura and Patricia. Survived by daughters Vera, Iris, Ruth, Barbara, Betty, Judy, and sons Sam and Richard. COLQUHOUN, Kenneth (1929-2006) The family announces with sorrow, his death at the West Nipissing General Hospital, Sturgeon Falls, on Friday, May 26, 2006 at the age of 76 years. Cherished husband of 56 years to Ruth (nee Cote), of Sturgeon Falls. Son of the late Joseph and Edith (nee Young) Colquhoun. Loving father of Linda Hebert (Charles) of Englehart, Jo-Ann Perreault (Gerald) of Ottawa, Bruce Suzanne) of Sturgeon Falls, Brian (Debbie) of Manotick, and Tim (Lisa) of Lewiston Idaho. Sadly missed by his grandchildren, Tracy, Jason, Marc, Patrick, Kenny, Cathy, Courteny, and Sierra, and by his great grandchildren, David, Julia Katie, Emily, and Connor. Survived by his two brothers, Howard (Jackie) of Blind River, and David (Paulette) of Sturgeon Falls. Pre-deceased by his brother, Melvin. Mr. Colquhoun was a retired employee of McMillan-Bloedel, Sturgeon Falls. The Colquhoun family wishes to express their appreciation to the staff of the Au Chateau, Home for the Aged, and West Nipissing General Hospital for the excellent care and compassion shown to our dad in his final days.
